WorkSafe Victoria partnered with Portable to streamline their digital experience delivery. We engaged product designers and technical team members to create the foundations of a design system proof of concept. The design system needed to work alongside Salesforce Omni and legacy components. To help scale and sustain forward momentum, we also created a roadmap to guide future development implementation, process changes, capability uplift and governance. Our final deliverables were packaged up as research and documents that our client could continue embedding and iterating to fit within their own ecosystems and WorkSafe culture.
The challenge
WorkSafe faced challenges in aligning digital squads to deliver cohesive digital experiences using Salesforce's Omni components. The project aimed to establish unified design standards, enhance collaboration and reduce tech and design debt within stringent deadlines and amidst complex system requirements.
Our approach
Portable approached the project in two focused sprints:
Discovery
Sprint timeline: 2 weeks
We started with discovery, research and listening. We conducted thorough system reviews and stakeholder workshops and interviews to define objectives and scope.
Implementation recommendations and roadmap

We moved into implementation and iteration. We developed a Storybook library for Omni components as the central source of truth, enabling real-time adjustments and promoting early feasibility in design decisions.
Outcomes
- Stakeholders were engaged and aligned on a shared vision for the future of the design system and the use of Salesforce Omni, with an understanding of current state insights.
- WorkSafe now has clear recommendations for implementation, including the future view of the ecosystem and tools and processes related through a recommended governance model.
- A proof of concept demonstrates the technical viability of the solution.
- WorkSafe possesses a clear roadmap to align people, processes, and technology so that everyone is prepared to start, scale, and sustain quality design experiences across all Salesforce digital systems at WorkSafe. This ranges from small next steps to bigger picture ways to embed the change within the teams.
