Observability means an engineering team finds out something is wrong before the people using the product do. At Blinq, Portable embedded real user monitoring and alerts tuned to the metrics that actually mattered, not just uptime, so issues were caught and fixed faster, before they reached customers. That mattered most during a period of rapid growth, when new features and new engineers were both arriving at pace.


Fast growth usually brings new team members who do not yet know the system, and features shipping faster than anyone can watch closely. As Blinq scaled its engineering team through an aggressive product roadmap, Portable embedded a site reliability engineering team inside the product squads, building dashboards and defining service level objectives so new engineers could understand the system quickly. Reliability became part of how the team worked, not a separate concern bolted on afterwards.
Too many alerts is its own problem, not a safety net. For Rosterfy, a volunteer management platform used by more than three million volunteers worldwide, Portable ran an observability review that recommended unifying logs, traces, and metrics into a single source of truth and tightening alerting to cut down on alert fatigue. The result was a clear roadmap for turning scattered signals into one picture the engineering team could act on.
