Let's talk

Environment

Research, design, and data that support waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and biodiversity.

Greenfleet's Battery Creek Forest in Victoria

Portable works with environmental organisations and government agencies on the systems behind sustainability: waste reduction, water monitoring, and biodiversity data. We publish an annual environmental impact report on our own footprint, and we bring the same rigour to partners like BirdLife Australia and Bushfire Recovery Victoria, turning complex environmental data into something people can actually use to make decisions.

Bird Life digital channels

Strategising digital transformation for Australia's leading bird conservation charity.

This engagement gave BirdLife a clear roadmap for consolidating 37 separate websites, a legacy of two organisations merging into one, into a single, coherent digital presence with a new CRM. For the volunteers, donors and campaigners who've grown BirdLife's supporter base from 40,000 to 145,000 since 2013, that means a consistent experience instead of a scattered one; for BirdLife's team, it means no longer managing dozens of disconnected sites by hand.

Improving and modernising access to Victoria's centralised repository for waterway monitoring data.

This project translated the needs of scientists, catchment managers and interstate agencies like the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and the Bureau of Meteorology, who rely on this data for their own forecasting and reporting, into 334 concrete requirements for the next version of the platform. For DECCA, it means the next redevelopment of the Water Management Information System will be built around how people actually search, view and download water data, not a structure that's a decade out of date.

DECCA WMIS
Leveraging data

Leveraging data to guide decision-making for Bushfire Recovery Victoria.

This work gave Bushfire Recovery Victoria's frontline teams a cloud-based dashboard and a shared business glossary and data dictionary, so staff across every recovery pillar could work from the same definitions and self-serve trusted data instead of relying on inconsistent internal processes. That matters most for the bushfire-affected communities the data ultimately serves: clearer, faster decisions about where recovery support is needed.

Making an impact

  • Portable Report: Environmental Impact Report 2025

Reporting on our own environmental impact

At Portable, sustainability is a core part of how we deliver meaningful public outcomes. This year’s report reflects the second year of our formal sustainability strategy and documents our continued efforts to cut emissions, rethink digital delivery, and embed environmental thinking into our work, operations, and culture.

  • AI and environmental impact statement

Portable will design, build, and run AI that helps Australia thrive while driving our Scope 2 and 3 emissions to half this year and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030. This statement guides our practice and will evolve as industry standards mature.
