Portable Report: Bridging gaps between mental health and AI

This report is on the value of sector conversations in helping us bridge the gaps between forward progress and person-centred care when using AI in mental health. Plus, check out our 8 design principles for the mental health sector.

It’s too simple to be ‘all in’ or ‘all out’ on AI in mental health . This is about stepping forward responsibly .

Portable hosted discussions with colleagues across mental health service delivery, policy and technology on the topic of how AI might impact mental health care in Australia.

We’d like to share what we heard for all who might like to foster their own conversations in this space .

Key themes included:

  • To adopt AI meaningfully in the mental health sector, we need to determine the most suitable intervention point.
  • For AI to be effective in mental health, it needs to understand the complexities, connections and co-morbidities in our unique experiences.
  • If we continue to focus on the known issues that are already being addressed, we miss the chance to regulate and legislate for the unknowns ahead.

We also include Portable's eight design principles for the mental health sector within the report.
