Before the March lockdown, we had begun working with DesignOffice to renovate our office and our recent expansion into the upstairs part of the old Tre-Sur Knitting Mill warehouse we work in. Since then, the builders have been busy knocking down walls and getting stuck into the renovations. So working from home during the lockdowns (x 2) couldn’t have come at a better time really…. It has been bitter sweet!
Portable has seen its team expand from 20 to 42 + designers, developers and producers in the last couple of years and we are looking forward to continuing to grow to meet our clients needs and use design and technology for positive impact.
Our vision for the space was to combine the existing warehouse features with modern lines and movement, to bring an updated and contemporary feel to the space which matches Portable’s culture. The space will meet our growing team’s needs, provide us with more work spaces, social spaces, private booths for taking phone calls and conducting research interviews and more rooms for workshops to be facilitated in (we are always running out of wall space for our 1000s of post it notes!)
Spaces for focussed work, meetings and private conversations have been planned for with four new meeting rooms, a boardroom and three phone booths on the first floor. There is also an additional meeting room being created on the ground floor by dividing one of the existing rooms. Informal meeting and breakout spaces are also planned throughout.
We are looking forward to having our staff back in the office and these renovations are giving us all something to look forward to. We can’t wait to celebrate it with our local community, previous and current clients at a neighbourhood drinks in the new space (when we are able to), but until then check out some work in progress photos of the space!
