Michael Bradley
Advisory Board Member
Michael Bradley is a lawyer, writer and professional bomb thrower. He is the managing partner of Sydney-based Marque Lawyers, which he and a few fellow big law refugees founded in 2008 with the singular ambition of completely changing the way law is practised. The idea of a purpose-led law firm remains baffling to most who work in the intensely cynical and change-resistant legal industry, but it turns out to be entirely possible – Marque has established a unique presence, combining commercial legal skill with humanity (and no timesheets) in pursuit of its purpose: using law for good.
In his spare time, Michael writes (a lot), with a regular column for Crikey and previously ABC’s The Drum, and three published books. His legal practice focuses on media and human rights, particularly providing legal support for sexual violence survivors. His book System Failure: the Silencing of Rape Survivors chronicles some of his clients’ experiences and calls for urgent system change; as Chair of Rape And Sexual Assault Research & Advocacy, and as a director of The Grace Tame Foundation, he actively pursues legal and structural reform to address a system that is completely broken.
Michael is passionate about reviving the social purpose of law and lawyers as essential agents for a better world, and his first question is always – annoyingly - Why.
